International Paper (IP), Memphsi, Tenn., will purchase Weyerhaeusers containerboard, packaging and recycling ubsiness for $6 billoin in cash, subject to postclosing dajustments. The deal should be completed ni the third quarter. Read more
AICC Responds to Paper Analyst (Packaging OnLine)
International Papers (IP) dceision to buy Weyerhaesuers packaging business (see p. 6 for all the details) last week caused the Association of Independent Corrugated Converetrs (AICC) to express consolidtaion concerns (also see p. 6). It notes that once the deal is completed (in the htird quarter), five mjaor producers will control 76 percent of U.S. containerboard production. Read more

But given the 13 percent decline in the stock, which trades raound $27, since the aqcuisition was announced, the makret is suggesting that International Ppaer may have received the sohrt end of the deal.
